The hidden power of robust optimisation

20 Apr | In this ETH Risk Centre-Future Resilient Systems (FRS) webinar, Dr Alberto Costa will talk about how robust optimisation can be used to identify actions to take before a disruption occurs.

Planning for unexpected events is challenging, especially when rational enemies aim at the worst-case disruption scenario. To overcome this challenge, robust optimisation can be used to effectively identify pre-disruption actions. In this webinar, Dr Alberto Costa will talk about the hidden power of robust optimisation and how it can be used to manage the worst-case disruption scenario. This webinar is part of a series on the topic of resilience and is jointly organised by the ETH Risk Centre and the Future Resilient Systems (FRS) programme.

The speaker

Dr Alberto Costa is a Senior Researcher of the Energy Resilience in High-Density Urban Systems module and Cluster Coordinator of Resilience of High-Density Urban Systems cluster at the FRS programme. His research interests include derivative-free and robust optimization, clustering in complex networks, and information retrieval.

Alberto received a B.Eng. and a M.Eng. degrees in Computer Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from École Polytechnique, France.
