New features for data analysis with ur-scape

Open-source geospatial platform ur-scape v0.9.94 now contains new data features and a Network Disruption Analysis tool

ur-scape v0.9.94

As part of the Disruptive Technology for Public Asset Governance (DT4PAG) Inception Support project funded by the World Bank, a team from the Singapore-ETH Centre has updated and added new features to ur-scape, an open-source geospatial planning support platform.

Dr Jonas Joerin, Prof. Stephen Cairns, Dr Yi Wang, Michael Joos and Muhammad Salihin Bin Zaol-Kefli worked jointly in collaboration with the Vietnam World Bank team for this upgrade.

The new features to ur-scape v0.9.94 include:

  1. Updates to the Contours, Reachability and Inspector tools – Users will now be able to tweak travel speeds, perform area inspections, and get additional statistics when overlaying data layers.

  2. A Network Disruption Analysis tool – This tool further augments the capabilities of ur-scape by visualising how transport network criticality is exhibited and may change when disrupted by flood scenarios.

- With road network data (e.g., OpenStreetMaps), this tool also assesses the importance of a road segment based on its contribution to the aggregate performance of supporting trips associated with critical services (e.g., emergency response, medical), utilising a network science based approach.

- With available flood hazard maps, the tool also simulates the degraded transport network by changing topological properties of the network due to floods, and illustrates how such disruptions impact the network criticality.

As a geospatial planning support tool for rapidly developing regions, SEC researchers previously worked with the World Bank and other international and local agencies to train universities, government departments, and businesses in Vietnam in using ur-scape.
