Sensemaking for Resilience
Cities are increasingly complex, and so are the challenges they face. Cities rely on the ‘social resilience’ of individuals and social groups to support the detection of hazards, reduce, cope and learn from various disasters.
Cluster 3 focuses on the sensemaking of actively and passively sensed data from various networks (community, social media, mobility, financial actors, and communication) including people, objects, and information. The main goal of the present cluster is to analyse such data, extract knowledge, and support actors and decision makers in enhancing and maintaining resilience of the sociotechnical and social systems.
Based on a distributed cognition approach enabled by data science innovations, researchers will combine approaches such as automated analysis of social media data, and context-based spatio-temporal analysis. Ultimately, improved sensemaking and cognition at organizational and community levels will lay the foundation in building more resilient cities.
To advance the scientific understanding of enhancing social resilience through cognitive processes, Cluster 3 is framed into two modules.
- Social and Financial Resilience
- Distributed Cognition for Social Resilience
